Water released from the reservoir or dam flows through a turbine, spinning it, which in turn activates an alternator to produce electricity.

The basic mechanism of hydroelectric power plants uses the potential energy of water stored in a dam. The mechanical energy is converted to electricity through the rotating generator and stator connected to the turbine shaft. Then, the electricity is transmitted to remote locations via power transmission lines and distributed to the receivers.
